Saudi surgeons successfully separate Fijian conjoined twins

Saudi surgeons have successfully separated 13-month-old conjoined twins from Fiji following a complex 13-hour operation at King Abdullah Specialist Children’s Hospital in Riyadh.

The surgery, led by Dr Abdullah Al Rabeeah, involved separating shared organs, including parts of the liver, bowel and urinary tract.

The procedure was performed free of charge under the Saudi Conjoined Twins Program, marking its 74th successful separation involving children from 29 countries.

The Fijian government described the Saudi assistance as a lifeline for the family after hospitals in several other countries sought substantial upfront payments for treatment.
